Job description
Careers that change lives start here. Medtronic is a global leader in healthcare technology with a Mission to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life. Our 95,000 employees work across more than 150 countries to put patients first — developing innovative medical technologies that improve the lives of 72+ million patients each year. Your unique talents will help shape the future of healthcare while building a career grounded in purpose, growth, and impact. A Day in the Life Medtronic Core Labs is building a connected digital ecosystem for surgery - bringing together video, data, collaboration, advanced computing and AI across the surgical journey. The Touch Surgery ecosystem is already used in more than 1,500 operating rooms worldwide, spanning pre-operative learning, intra-operative tele-mentoring and collaboration, surgical video, and AI-powered post-operative insights. Touch Surgery Aide is our next-generation compute platform for the operating room and a foundation for how that ecosystem continues to evolve. Aide is more than a platform for real-time AI. It is the on-premise / edge foundation through which digital applications can connect to surgical video, devices, hospital networks and Touch Surgery cloud services - and through which those capabilities can be deployed, operated, updated and supported at scale. About the Position Our London Core Labs team builds ambitious products at the intersection of software, embedded systems, connectivity, video, computer vision, AI and medical technology. Product leaders work closely with engineers, designers, clinicians and specialists across Medtronic to create a connected ecosystem for the operating room As a Senior Principal Product Manager for Touch Surgery Aide, you will shape the product strategy for the digital and edge-compute platform that powers the Touch Surgery ecosystem. You will identify the most important customer and business problems, define the platform capabilities that create leverage across multiple products, and make the trade-offs that determine where we invest. The role requires a minimum of two days per week in the London, UK office. Occasional travel to customer sites across the US and Europe may also be required, including overnight stays. Primary Responsibilities Set and communicate a compelling multi-year product vision for Aide as the intraoperative digital foundation of the Touch Surgery ecosystem. Define the platform strategy across edge compute, video, data movement, connectivity, application enablement, fleet operations and future extensibility - with real-time AI as one important workload on a broader digital foundation. Build deep understanding of surgeons, OR teams, hospital IT, service and implementation workflows, customer needs, technology shifts and Medtronic portfolio priorities. Lead continuous discovery with engineering, design, clinical and field partners; test the riskiest assumptions early and be willing to reshape, defer or stop work when evidence does not support the investment. Identify which capabilities should be common platform services versus application-specific solutions and prioritise reusable capabilities that reduce duplicated work across the ecosystem. Partner with Touch Surgery application, AI, cloud and data teams on end-to-end workflows, application lifecycle, platform dependencies, performance needs and release coordination. Own product direction for connectivity, device-to-cloud workflows, provisioning, configuration, telemetry, software deployment, diagnostics, remote support and fleet lifecycle. Make explicit trade-offs across customer value, safety, cybersecurity, reliability, usability, technical feasibility, serviceability, cost, scalability, platform reuse, technical debt and obsolescence. Translate strategy into clear outcomes, initiatives and product requirements with the traceability required in a regulated environment - without prescribing technical solutions owned by engineering. Work closely with the Product Owner/ System Engineer who translates product strategy into actionable backlogs, acceptance criteria and delivery priorities, while maintaining alignment with engineering on a day-to-day basis. Partner with Product Marketing, Commercial, Service and Implementation teams to make the platform understandable, launchable, adoptable and supportable in real customer environments. Required Qualifications Significant product-management experience with accountability from discovery and strategy through launch, scale and lifecycle, with evidence of measurable outcomes. Demonstrated success with digital platforms, ecosystems or technically complex products such as edge / cloud systems, integrated hardware-software products, connected devices or enterprise infrastructure. Strong platform product judgement: you can decide what belongs in a shared platform versus an application or integration, explain difficult trade-offs and show what you deliberately chose not to build. Strong customer-discovery and analytical skills, using qualitative and quantitative evidence to form product decisions and test assumptions. Technical fluency sufficient to reason credibly about software, hardware, video, networking, cloud, APIs, data flows, identity and architecture constraints while respecting engineering ownership of technical design. Ability to operate in ambiguity and influence senior technical, clinical, commercial and business stakeholders without direct authority. Preferred Qualifications Medical devices, healthcare software, digital health or another safety-critical / regulated environment. Operating-room technology, surgical video, clinical workflows or hospital IT environments. Platform product management, developer / application enablement or multi-product ecosystem strategy. Edge compute, embedded systems, real-time video processing / streaming, connected devices, computer vision or AI-enabled products. Device fleet management, remote operations, observability, provisioning, software updates and lifecycle management. Cloud platforms, APIs, interoperability, distributed systems, networking, identity and device-to-cloud data flows. Cybersecurity, privacy, reliability, quality systems, design controls or safety-by-design Physical Job Requirements The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this position, but they are not an exhaustive list of all the required responsibilities and skills of this position.
