Job Description About the Role: Build your technical expertise while helping maintain the equipment that supports reliable pharmaceutical manufacturing at Takeda. As a Maintenance Technician II at our Round Lake, Illinois site, you’ll provide hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting support for the Galaxy filling process and equipment throughout the Mix, Fill, and Finishing complexes. You’ll work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality teams to keep production lines operating safely and efficiently. From preventive maintenance and equipment repairs to troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical issues, your work will help minimize downtime, improve equipment reliability, and support the delivery of quality products to patients. This role is suited to a maintenance professional who can work independently, identify potential equipment issues before they affect production, and contribute to a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and technical knowledge-sharing. Shift Details: 12-hour shift from 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM on a 2-2-3 rotating schedule How You Will Contribute: Maintain and troubleshoot equipment supporting the Galaxy filling process and the Mix, Fill, and Finishing manufacturing complexes. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to resolve equipment failures and minimize production downtime. Monitor assigned manufacturing lines during production, communicate with Manufacturing personnel, and proactively identify issues that could affect equipment performance, product quality, or production schedules. Review preventive maintenance requirements, verify parts availability, and complete scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) activities on time. Build, rebuild, and repair machine assemblies and support equipment reliability and operational efficiency. Initiate work orders and document equipment breakdowns, alarms, repairs, and recurring issues using JD Edwards (JDE) computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) or other designated tracking methods. Review equipment trends and downtime information to identify recurring problems and support corrective actions that improve reliability. Troubleshoot robots operating in normal production modes and investigate issues affecting machine output and quality. Communicate equipment issues, work status, and potential production impacts to supervisors, Manufacturing, and management in accordance with site Stop and Fix guidelines. Assign or coordinate maintenance work related to the Galaxy process, as appropriate, and ensure associated documentation is complete and accurate. Share technical knowledge and help train less experienced technicians on equipment, preventive maintenance, safety, and 6S practices. Follow applicable corporate specifications, site procedures, GMP requirements, and safety standards; report unsafe conditions and practices and complete required training on time. Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and lead technicians to resolve technical issues, escalate concerns when necessary, and support continuous improvement initiatives. What You Bring to Takeda: A high school diploma or GED plus 2+ years of related experience, or an associate degree or higher plus 1+ year of related work experience, is required. 3 or more years of manufacturing systems experience is preferred. Technical certifications in maintenance, instrumentation, electrical systems, or a related discipline are a plus. Experience working in an FDA-regulated manufacturing environment is preferred. Practical experience with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems is required. The ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic drawings is required. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions, are required. Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) or a willingness to develop knowledge of PLCs is required. Experience using JDE or a similar CMMS, along with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, is required. Strong verbal and written communication skills, teamwork, and accurate technical documentation practices are required. The ability to prioritize maintenance activities, recognize potential equipment issues, and escalate concerns appropriately is required. A commitment to safe work practices, continuous learning, and collaboration with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality teams is required. In this role, you may: Overtime and shutdowns: Work overtime as required, including during plant shutdowns or when additional support is needed to maintain equipment reliability and production operations. Physical requirements: Stand and/or walk for extended periods during an 8–12-hour shift, including walking between manufacturing, quality, and packaging rooms and throughout the facility. Tasks may require bending, twisting, reaching overhead, or squatting. Lifting and material handling: Lift and push/pull up to 100 pounds and carry up to 100 pounds with the assistance of material-handling equipment and/or two-person lifts, as specified in the source requirements. Manufacturing environment: Work indoors around moving equipment and machinery, in areas that may be cold, wet, or noisy. Hearing protection may be required. Personal protective equipment (PPE): Wear required safety equipment and protective clothing. Work in controlled environments may require special gowning covering the head, face, hands, feet, and body. Filling-area requirements: Follow applicable cleanroom and gowning procedures, which may include restrictions on makeup, jewelry, nail polish, and artificial fingernails. Some areas may involve cleanrooms, confined spaces, or cool/hot storage conditions. Chemical exposure: Work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers, and Celite; respiratory protection may be required depending on the task and work area. Cephalosporin exposure: Certain product-touch assignments may involve exposure to cephalosporins.
