The Position Job Summary The Production Technology Engineer is a key position responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous optimization of production equipment and processes. This role drives significant impact by optimizing time to market, enhancing the reliability and quality of products, and improving overall cost efficiency and operational standards. The scope of impact is broad, extending across the organization including internal manufacturing and involving critical external stakeholders, including tier 2 suppliers. The engineer also provides technical support to the GEM organization. The position balances strategic analysis with operational execution, involving technical risk management, while simultaneously identifying, evaluating, and implementing cutting-edge production technologies and driving innovation. Planning is typically multi-year to ensure long-term process capability and quality. Main Tasks & Responsibilities Equipment and Process Lifecycle : Accountable for the development, implementation, and rigorous • documentation of all production equipment and processes, in close partnership with a network of international suppliers and sub-suppliers as well as internal manufacturing. • Design for Quality (DQM) : Define and ensure process capabilities and requirements for Design for Quality and Manufacturability (DQM). • Scientific & Academic Collaboration : Coordinates and executes scientific collaborations with academia and industry relevant for External Manufacturing (EM) for process/product improvements and innovation (e.g., materials science, sustainability, diagnostic workflow). • Global Networking : Is able to engage in a global network between EM and relevant industry, academic, and scientific institutions, as well as to Roche internal scientific communities and academic interfaces. Technology Evaluation and Innovation : Proactively identify, analyze, and compare new production • technologies and processes using advanced tools (e.g., statistical simulations, digital twins), driving innovation to optimize time to market, product reliability, quality, and overall cost efficiency. • Operational Support : Provide technical support to GEM on critical quality and supply issues as directed by the supervisor. • Continuous Improvement : Permanently optimize processes to elevate quality and efficiency standards across the global manufacturing organization. • Stakeholder Management : Regularly interacts with a diverse group of stakeholders, both internal and external (Tech Product Leads, Development Engineers, Quality, Internal Manufacturing, Senior Leadership, and external suppliers/academia). Required - Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Production Technology, Plastics Engineering, or Automation). - As this position is GMP related, job qualifications must comply with the **requirements of China Medical Device GMP article 8 and IVD section 2.1.1**.- **3–5 years of professional experience** in production engineering or process development, specifically in **high-volume manufacturing environments. - Knowledge of Design for Quality and Manufacturability (DQM) in a regulated environment. - Practical experience in technical risk management and multi-year planning. - **Technical Mastery**: Expert knowledge of production technologies, including advanced tools like **statistical simulations and digital twins**. - **Operational Excellence**: Proficiency in permanently optimizing processes to elevate quality and efficiency standards across a global manufacturing network. - **"Ability to Get Things Done"**: A results oriented mindset with the tenacity to provide technical support for critical quality and supply issues. - **High-Performing Mindset**: Strong analytical skills to evaluate cutting-edge technologies and drive change initiatives. - **Communication & Mobility**: **Fluency in English** (written and spoken) is required. **Willingness to travel** globally to support external manufacturing sites. Leadership competencies at proficient level, in line with corporate framework. Preferred 1, Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in a technical or scientific discipline. Certifications in Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt) or Lean Manufacturing methodologies. 2, Fluent English(written and spoken) is required. 3,Demonstrated expertise in the development, implementation, and documentation of production equipment with international suppliers. 4, Experience driving innovation projects (e.g., introduction of new materials, technologies). 5, Familiarity with complex plastic injection molding, automated assembly systems, or diagnostic packaging technology. 6, Strong cross-cultural collaboration and matrix project execution skills.
