Your Impact The Vertex R&D and DTE Sourcing Co-op is a 6-month experiential training program for students currently working towards an undergraduate or master's degree in sourcing, procurement, supply chain, communications, business operations, project management, or a scientific discipline (biology, chemistry, or physics) with an interest in business. If you are passionate, collaborative, and growth-minded, a co-op at Vertex will help you gain meaningful experience in our R&D & DTE Sourcing functional area and serve as a launchpad for your career. What you will be doing: The Vertex R&D and DTE Strategic Sourcing team is seeking someone who has an interest in Sourcing or Procurement. The individual should be able to multi-task, be process oriented, feel comfortable and confident interacting with different stakeholders and have excellent excel/analytical skills. The Strategic Sourcing department strives to deliver value, improve financial performance and drive returns for the business in the strategic sourcing of goods and services through proactive analysis and understanding of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), strategic engagement with our internal business partners and external suppliers and by educating the organization in Procurement and Sourcing best practices. The individual will assist with the day-to-day management of various spend categories such as biology and chemistry services, preclinical sciences, biospecimens, and global regulatory affairs, which includes administrative support, process mapping, building spend reports/ dashboards, supporting or leading RFX’s (Request for Information, Quotation, Proposal, etc.) and managing other projects as needed. Since the team is small, you will have the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of tasks. Administrative support for the strategic sourcing department including RFX (Request for Information/Proposal/ Quotation) processes, coordination and attendance of bid defense meetings Contracting database management Running and/ or developing spend reports/ dashboards (Excel & Power BI) Process mapping Support Supplier Relationship Management program Rate card and category spend analysis Planning and executing negotiations What you will need to succeed: Must have completed at least two years of undergraduate coursework with a focus in either sourcing, procurement, supply chain or commercial/ marketing, communications, business operations, project management, or a scientific discipline (biology, chemistry, or physics) with an interest in business. Students pursuing a master's degree will also be considered. Legal authorization to work in the United States, now and in the future. Please note that Vertex does not provide sponsorship for internships/co-ops or entry level roles within this part of the organization. You must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before June 2027 You must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from January – June 2027 Preferred Qualifications : Demonstrates technical competence to grasp new concepts and applications quickly. Proficient within Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Power BI). Familiar with AI tools and how they can be leveraged in a business environment. Strong oral and written communication skills. Driven, motivated and curious individual who is eager to learn. Strong analytical skills, interest in market research and sourcing analysis.
