Job description

At Pfizer, our mission is to create breakthroughs that change patients’ lives. We are seeking a Senior Manager, AI Experience Designer to design and deliver innovative, trustworthy, and impactful AI-powered experiences across Pfizer’s technology platforms. This is a senior individual contributor role with meaningful ownership of the work and its outcomes. Working directly with Product, Engineering, Data, and AI partners, the Senior Manager turns ambiguous business and user needs into clear experience strategies, testable concepts, working prototypes, and production-ready designs. The role requires deep expertise in Agentic AI and Conversational User Experience, including how AI systems communicate, take action, recover from failure, disclose uncertainty, and support effective human oversight. The successful candidate combines exceptional design craft with strong technical fluency, using Large Language Model APIs and agent frameworks to prototype real behavior rather than static interfaces. This role remains close to execution, owning complex initiatives from problem framing through validation, detailed design, and implementation partnership. The Senior Manager also contributes reusable approaches and standards that improve experience quality and consistency across Pfizer’s platforms. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES End-to-End Experience Design: Own the design execution of complex AI-enabled products and workflows, from problem framing and research through prototyping, validation, detailed design, and implementation. Agentic and Conversational Design: Design AI experiences across chat, voice, and multimodal interactions, including conversation state, tool use, human oversight, approvals, escalation, error recovery, and safe fallback behaviors. Applied AI Prototyping: Use Large Language Model APIs, agent frameworks, and emerging AI tools to prototype realistic system behavior, test assumptions, and identify usability, trust, and safety risks before development. Product and Engineering Partnership: Work directly with Product and Engineering partners to shape scope, evaluate trade-offs, resolve implementation challenges, and ensure design intent is reflected in the delivered experience. Experience Quality and Craft: Deliver high-quality interaction, visual, and conversation design, applying strong judgment across usability, accessibility, trust, transparency, and regulated-content requirements. Rapid Validation and Delivery: Turn ambiguous ideas into testable concepts, proofs of concept, and production-ready designs, using evidence and user feedback to iterate quickly. Scalable Experience Practices: Contribute reusable interaction approaches, standards, frameworks, and patterns that improve consistency and experience quality across multiple products and platforms. Outcome Measurement: Define appropriate experience measures and use qualitative and quantitative evidence to evaluate adoption, task success, trust, usability, and overall product effectiveness. ROLE BEHAVIOURS Don't Lose Your Curiosity: Experiments constantly with new AI design tools and methods on real work; shares what works and keeps their own practice current as the craft changes. Act with Agency: Gets just enough context and starts making; improvises around missing inputs, acts on partial information, and corrects course through the work itself rather than waiting for a plan. Pairs that bias to build with care for the craft: a strong sense of style, sweated interaction detail, and taste grounded in systems design. Raise the Craft Bar: Produces high-quality work that demonstrates strong judgment, modern design practice, and effective application of AI-enabled methods. Own the Outcome: Takes accountability for the quality, usability, adoption, and impact of the experiences they design, remaining engaged through implementation and post-release learning. Be Polymath Oriented: Combines interaction and conversation design with working technical knowledge of LLMs and agents; moves comfortably between design, product, and engineering contexts. Communicate with Precision: Writes specs and documentation engineers can build from directly; presents design rationale clearly to product and engineering partners. Think in Systems: Considers how individual interactions connect across workflows, products, platforms, data, and human and AI participants, creating approaches that scale beyond a single use case. Here Is What You Need (Minimum Requirements) Applicant must have a bachelor's degree with at least 6 years of progressive UX design experience, with a proven track record in delivering high-impact digital products and experiences. OR a master's degree with at least 5 years of experience; OR a PhD with 1+ years of experience Strong understanding of modern product development, front-end principles, APIs, and technical constraints, with the ability to collaborate effectively with Engineering throughout implementation. Hands-on experience building with LLM APIs or agent frameworks to prototype real agent behavior in code, not only static interfaces. Experience creating and delivering reusable interaction patterns, components, or design frameworks that scale across multiple products and engineering teams. Demonstrated experience designing Conversational UX (chat and/or voice), including dialog flows, conversation state, repair/fallback patterns, escalation, and tone/voice guidelines. Demonstrated experience designing Agentic AI workflows (systems that can take actions via tools/functions), including human-in-the-loop controls, approvals, transparency, and safe failure modes. Extensive experience working with AI-driven design tools and platforms, with a deep understanding of how to leverage them for rapid prototyping and iterative design. "AI-first" mindset with a proven willingness to challenge traditional design paradigms and adopt augmented workflows to radically accelerate delivery cycles. Expertise in accessibility and inclusive design, with hands-on experience ensuring WCAG 2.1 AA compliance across a wide variety of digital platforms. Proven ability to deliver complex design projects under tight deadlines with a focus on speed, efficiency, and quality. Strong communication skills, including the ability to present and justify
