Senior Equipment Technician

Pay Range: $27.20 - $37.40 Position Summary: A Senior Equipment Technician will install and perform PMs on the site’s capital equipment. This will include complex repairs and calibrations of high complexity. Additionally, this role will provide support and provide training for other team members working on smaller-scale and minor equipment maintenance. This position will also serve as an important partner to the department by assisting in strategic planning, vendor management, and protocol guidance. Key Responsibilities: Perform installation, maintenance, repairs, and routine inspections on capital and manufacturing equipment. Perform calibrations on high level complex equipment and have knowledge of metrology practices. Coordinate maintenance and repairs on highly complex systems/equipment. Coordinate and schedule daily steam plant operation and repair. Cross functionally coordinates project planning around operations manufacturing schedule. Perform daily activities such as calibrations, repairs and PMs within the various clean rooms. Fix plumbing, electrical components, hardware, lighting, and building HVAC systems both in and out of clean rooms. Facilitate meetings regarding/overseeing equipment procurement and overall project initiatives. Work with vendors to purchase equipment and negotiate contracts. Coordinate with external vendors and oversee their work while onsite. Understand, utilize, edit, and author SOPs. Investigate and author non-conformance reports. Periodically review department procedures to identify and implement process improvements. Work within the Regulatory Asset Manager (RAM) to enter and document new equipment as well as establish and evaluate calibration and maintenance schedules. Management of the BAS (Building Automation System). Train and mentor Equipment Technicians and Advanced Equipment Technicians. Create and review existing work instructions for Equipment Technicians and Advanced Equipment Technicians. Approve and assign work order requests. Routine operation of material handling equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks. Follow guidelines and comply with all company safety, quality, and training procedures and regulations. Ensure all facilities projects and facility changes meet safety regulations and building codes. Perform additional duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Requires a High School diploma or equivalent and 5-8 years of relevant experience; or an associate’s degree preferred and 3-5 years of relevant experience. Class 2B MN Boilers License or Special Engineer is preferred, prior experience with boilers/steam systems is required. Prior experience operating material handling equipment is required. Prior experience in clean rooms preferred. Any HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical licenses are preferred. Prior experience with biotechnology equipment is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Extensive knowledge of hand tools and safe use of power tools. Knowledge of highly complex equipment troubleshooting and extensive mechanical aptitude. In depth knowledge of building utility systems such as electrical, chilled water, plumbing, waste treatment, and clean room HVAC. Ability to work in a clean room for extended periods. Multi-trade proficiency in carpentry, plumbing, and electrical systems. Must work well both independently and in a team environment. Ability to effectively solve problems, prioritize and strategize the overall needs of the department. Ability to effectively train and mentor other team members. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively. Ability to identify and implement the need for process improvement changes. Ability to work effectively with computers and working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Working Conditions: Onsite work required during standard business hours. Ability to work extended hours (evenings/weekends) as needed. Must participate in department on call rotation (additional pay). Ability to travel to and work at off-site Bio-Techne locations as needed. Physical Requirements: Ability to stand or sit for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed. Ability to safely operate and transport ladders as needed. Ability to work in confined or restricted spaces. Ability to work outside as needed, year-round. Manual dexterity for handling laboratory equipment.
