A Day in the Life A Day in the Life • Work and lead within a cross-functional team to design, develop, test, and document innovative imaging system solutions utilizing software and hardware components. • Lead the characterization and optimization of image quality performance at the system level, considering the interaction of imaging hardware, software, reconstruction, and image processing pipelines. • Collaborate across marketing, quality, software, hardware, and test teams to ensure the imaging chain meets product requirements and clinical use needs. • Lead the definition and development of user needs, business needs, use cases, requirements, and system architecture. • Lead the engineering analysis to optimize and select system-level concepts to ensure the final solution fulfills needs, requirements, use cases, environments, and the overall system vision. • Plan and execute user evaluations in lab-based surgical environments or other formative evaluation events to gain insightful feedback on system concepts. • Partner and collaborate with surgeons, surgical staff, hospital administrators, and Medtronic field teams to translate clinical and operational needs into solutions that integrate seamlessly into surgical practice and hospital systems – enhancing both usability and adoption. • Collaborate with core team/program leaders, Chief Engineers, product managers, R&T leaders to align technical decisions across platforms/portfolios, resolving integration and experience challenges and delivering solutions that feel cohesive and interconnected. • Lead teams in identifying and mitigating technical risks, product hazards, and failure modes. • Troubleshoot system component integration and support surgical procedure integration of the design. • Provide technical leadership along with computer-assisted, robotic-assisted, and clinical procedure subject matter expertise to internal and cross-business development teams. Nice to Have • Experience in the medical device industry and/or surgical techniques. • Experience with X-ray imaging systems, including system performance characterization and image quality optimization. • Expertise analyzing end-to-end imaging pipelines, including detector behavior, acquisition, calibration, reconstruction, image processing, and display. • Expertise troubleshooting image quality artifacts and performance limitations in imaging systems. • Experience applying AI tools effectively, while exercising sound engineering judgment, technical accuracy, and appropriate review of outputs. • Expertise in leading cross-functional or multi-platform engineering activities across product definition, specification, test, and launch. • Experience in Systems Engineering as related to stakeholder needs definition, creation of use case workflows, requirements definition and decomposition, functional architecture, and system design. • Experience planning and conducting user evaluations of product concepts, analyzing data, documenting evaluation methods and results, and presenting design recommendations to product teams. • Experience with software design, algorithm design, GUI design, and iterative software development practices. • Familiarity and experience working with Matlab, Linux, C++, or scripting languages. • Experience with mechanical and/or electrical design, mechanical/electrical drawings, tolerance analysis, and computer-aided design (CAD). • Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to influence across the organization. • Ability to provide creativity while solving complex problems without known solutions. • Ability to quickly prototype new concepts and ideas. • Ability to assess new technologies via comprehensive reviews of the state-of-the-art • Project management skills including leading a project team as well as planning and estimation of tasks, milestones, resources, and budget. • Strong leadership skills and mentoring capabilities. • Ability to drive change. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned. Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, evaluates alternatives including cost and risk, supportability and analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. TECHNICAL SPECIALIST CAREER STREAM: An individual contributor with responsibility in our technical functions to advance existing technology or introduce new technology and therapies. Formulates, delivers and/or manages projects assigned and works with other stakeholders to achieve desired results. May act as a mentor to colleagues or may direct the work of other lower level professionals. The majority of time is spent delivering R&D, systems or initiatives related to new technologies or therapies – from design to implementation - while adhering to policies, using specialized knowledge and skills. Required Knowledge and Experience: Requires a Baccalaureate degree and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience OR PhD with 0 years relevant experience. For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
