Hosting Engineer I

The Associate position is an early-career role within Hosting Services focused on documented cloud engineering support, infrastructure-as-code, automation and FinOps assistance. Working under the guidance of experienced cloud engineers, the role helps maintain reusable engineering standards, develop and test automation, produce cloud cost and governance reports, and improve Azure tagging compliance. The role requires learning agility, analytical ability, attention to detail and disciplined documentation while following Fortrea architecture, security, quality and change-control requirements. Summary of Responsibilities: · Provide documented engineering support by developing and maintaining cloud design records, build guides, configuration standards, implementation procedures, validation evidence and reusable knowledge articles. (25% of time) · Assist with creating, testing and maintaining infrastructure-as-code modules and templates using Terraform, Bicep or approved equivalent technologies. (20% of time) · Develop and enhance automation scripts using PowerShell, Azure CLI, Python or approved tools to improve repeatability, reduce manual effort and support engineering controls. (20% of time) · Provide FinOps assistance by generating recurring Hosting consumption, cost-allocation, utilization and optimization reports; validate data quality and highlight exceptions for engineering review. (15% of time) · Monitor and report Hosting tagging compliance, identify missing or incorrect tags, coordinate remediation with resource owners and maintain evidence of compliance. (10% of time) · Support engineering governance by maintaining source-control repositories, code documentation, version history, peer-review records, test results and deployment evidence. (5% of time) · Assist engineers with technical analysis, proof-of-concept activities, standard-pattern validation and engineering backlog items. (5% of time) · Collaborate with cloud engineering, architecture, security, FinOps, application and service-management teams to deliver governed and reusable Hosting solutions. · Follow approved architecture, security, change, quality and cost-management controls for all engineering deliverables. · Perform other duties as needed or assigned. Qualifications (Minimum Required): · Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical training and experience. · 0 – 1 year of relevant experience, including internships, apprenticeships, academic projects or hands-on labs in cloud engineering, automation or data reporting. · Foundational understanding of cloud computing, operating systems, networking, scripting and information-security concepts. · Ability to communicate clearly in English, both written and verbal. · Ability to follow engineering standards, maintain accurate documentation, manage assigned work and escalate risks promptly. · Demonstrated curiosity, analytical thinking, accountability and willingness to learn in a team environment. Experience (Minimum Required): · Foundational knowledge of Microsoft Azure resource constructs, including subscriptions, resource groups, compute, storage, networking and Microsoft Entra ID. · Introductory scripting and automation skills using PowerShell, Azure CLI, Python or equivalent, including basic testing and documentation. · Awareness of infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates or equivalent, including parameters, modules, state and version control. · Exposure to Git/source control, code review, CI/CD concepts and structured change management. · Exposure to Azure Cost Management, Azure Resource Graph, dashboards, reporting or data-analysis tools. · Basic understanding of cloud governance, resource tagging, cost allocation, budgets, utilization reporting, rightsizing and optimization concepts. · Ability to analyze technical and cost data, identify exceptions, document findings and maintain engineering evidence. · Basic understanding of Windows and/or Linux, IP addressing, DNS, routing, access controls and security fundamentals. · Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and complete defined engineering tasks under guidance. Preferred Qualifications Include: · Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900); Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) completed or in progress is an advantage. · Hands-on Azure labs, internship experience, capstone projects or participation in cloud-learning programs. · Practical exposure to Terraform or Bicep, PowerShell or Azure CLI, Git repositories and automated deployment pipelines. · Exposure to Azure Cost Management, FinOps reporting, tagging compliance, cost allocation, rightsizing, budget tracking and optimization opportunities. · Experience creating structured technical documents, dashboards, spreadsheets or recurring management reports. · Awareness of enterprise or regulated environments, audit evidence, quality controls and standard operating procedures.
