Job Description The Global Medical Core Capability Strategy Lead is a Director-level expert and the primary design and development lead for Takeda Medical’s global capability architecture. This role builds the intellectual foundation that Medical Excellence operates from, developing the competency frameworks, role archetypes, what good looks like descriptors, and capability roadmap that define what excellence looks like across Medical roles enterprise-wide. The role will be based in either Cambridge MA, or Zurich, Switzerland. Operating with a TA-agnostic, enterprise-wide lens, this role works in close peer partnership with the Global Scientific Training Leads, IBU Medical Excellence, and the broader Medical Excellence network, ensuring capability frameworks are grounded in clinical and scientific reality and fit for purpose across all BUs and markets. The role is the development and design engine within the Medical Capability Strategy & Operations group, translating the Medical Affairs Vision 2030 agenda into a systematic, evidence-based capability architecture that the Head, Medical Capability Strategy & Operations can then govern, align, and champion across the enterprise. ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. Capability Framework Design & Development Lead the design and development of Takeda Medical’s global competency frameworks, role archetypes, and what good looks like descriptors across all Medical roles, ensuring they are grounded in enterprise needs, scientifically credible, and fit for purpose across all BUs, markets, and therapy areas Own the capability maturity model, defining clear progression standards and capability levels that enable structured assessment, development planning, and performance measurement across the global Medical organization Continuously evolve the capability architecture in response to changes in the enterprise operating model, portfolio priorities, and the external Medical Affairs landscape, ensuring frameworks remain current and forward-looking 2. Medical Affairs Vision 2030 Capability Roadmap Lead the translation of the Medical Affairs Vision 2030 agenda into a systematic, multi-year capability development roadmap for Takeda Medical, defining the future-ready capabilities required and the sequenced development architecture to build them Work in close partnership with the Head, Medical Capability Strategy & Operations to ensure the roadmap is aligned to enterprise transformation priorities and can be governed and aligned across Global Medical Leadership, BUs, and markets Identify and integrate emerging capability requirements, including data fluency, AI-enabled engagement, omnichannel scientific interaction, and evidence generation, into the capability roadmap ahead of need 3. Performance Standards & Measurement Define clear, measurable performance indicators that translate what good looks like descriptors into observable behaviors and outcomes, enabling consistent assessment and development planning across the global Medical organization Partner with the Head, Medical Capability Strategy & Operations and the Learning Strategy & Operations team to ensure capability performance measurement is embedded in the Bloom learning ecosystem and, over time, in the CXF platform Contribute informed input into how capability data can be structured and leveraged within the CXF program, working with DD&T and the Head, Medical Capability Strategy & Operations to ensure the capability architecture is built into the platform design 4. Stakeholder Co-Creation & Enterprise Partnership Work in close peer partnership with the Global Scientific Training Leads to ensure capability frameworks are grounded in scientific training realities and that the capability architecture and scientific training curricula are coherently integrated rather than operating in parallel Partner with the Head, Europe & Intercontinental Medical Excellence, IBU Medical Excellence & Operations, US Scientific Training, and OBU Scientific Training to ensure capability frameworks and role archetypes are co-created and fit for purpose across the full range of BU contexts and market operating models Engage with Marketing & Commercial Excellence, R&D, and DD&T as key stakeholders in capability design, ensuring Medical capability frameworks reflect the cross-functional expectations of what future-ready Medical Affairs looks like Provide capability and skillset development input into Takeda’s Enterprise Engagement model, contributing to the rules of the road that govern how Medical Affairs and Global Development collaborate to support clinical studies, ensuring the underlying capability and skillset requirements are reflected in the Medical capability architecture Support the Head, Medical Capability Strategy & Operations in presenting and aligning capability frameworks across Global Medical Leadership and enterprise stakeholders, acting as the subject matter expert and design authority 5. Bloom Content Governance & Programme Development Contribute to the governance of the Bloom learning ecosystem by ensuring capability framework content, what good looks like descriptors, and related learning assets are current, well-curated, and aligned to the broader program architecture Contribute to building internal capability framework design and development bench strength within the broader Medical Capability Strategy & Operations team, supporting the function’s ambition to operate with greater independence from external vendors over time Manage external vendor relationships and content development partnerships supporting capability framework design and development as a complement to internal team capability, with accountability for approximately USD $1-2M annual budget for external capability development spend DIMENSIONS & ASPECTS Deep expertise in competency framework design, capability architecture, talent development strategy, and adult learning principles, with strong understanding of Medical Affairs Vision 2030 and what the capability evolution to 2030 requires in practice across a complex enterprise Operates with a TA-agnostic, enterprise-wide strategic lens, working through influence and co-creation across the Medical Excellence network and key BU partners without direct authority, building credibility through expertise, rigor, and the quality of the frameworks produced Decision authority within the capability design domain, accountable for the intellectual quality and enterprise fitness of competency frameworks, role archetypes, and what good looks like descriptors, with shared accountability for the broader capability architecture governed by the Head, Medical Capability Strategy & Operations Primary relationships: Head, Medical Capability Strategy & Operations (line manager), Global Scientific Training Leads (peer co-creation), Head, Europe & Intercontinental Medical Excellence, IBU Medical Excellence & Operations, US Scientific
