Work Schedule Standard (Mon-Fri) Environmental Conditions Office Job Description Senior Engineer – PCBA Centre of Excellence Location: Brno, Czech Republic (Thermo Fisher Scientific Brno Technology Center), with up to 30% international travel to Thermo Fisher Scientific sites and suppliers across Germany, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic. Job Description The PCBA Centre of Excellence is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to help build a resilient, cost-effective global electronics supply chain. Working from Thermo Fisher Scientific's Brno Technology Center, you will collaborate with world-class engineering, sourcing, and manufacturing teams to support multiple Analytical Instruments Group (AIG) businesses. In this role, you will apply your PCBA expertise across R&D, Operations, and Sourcing, leading Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives, driving supply chain optimization, reducing product costs, and improving manufacturability. You will play a key role in advancing company cost-out objectives through productivity improvements, supply chain risk assessments, design change facilitation, and implementation of Practical Process Improvement (PPI) methodologies. Working cross-functionally across multiple businesses and divisions, you will develop and own a technical project portfolio and lead initiatives that deliver measurable business value. About the Brno Technology Center This position is based at Thermo Fisher Scientific's Brno Technology Center, one of the company's largest global engineering and manufacturing sites. Brno is recognized as a global hub for electron microscopy, where world-class electron microscopes and spectrometers are designed, developed, and manufactured for customers across the life sciences, semiconductor, materials science, and industrial markets. The site brings together more than 1,500 experts across R&D, manufacturing engineering, electronics, software, sourcing, and operations, creating a highly collaborative environment focused on innovation, continuous improvement, and solving complex scientific and engineering challenges. What You Will Do Lead technical initiatives across electro-mechanical components and assemblies, including motors, cables, power management systems, controls, and OEM assemblies within the CMD division. Facilitate Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE) workshops in partnership with procurement and engineering leaders. Support EMS Category Management with technical RFQ analysis and VAVE initiatives, including PCBA redesign, platform consolidation, and supplier manufacturing and test optimization. Develop and manage a multi-year pipeline of technical projects aimed at improving competitiveness, cost efficiency, and supply chain robustness. Partner closely with the India Engineering Center to accelerate ideation and execution of improvement initiatives. Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, and Engineering teams to ensure effective implementation and sustained results. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field. 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering or a related engineering environment. Demonstrated ability to operate effectively within a cross-functional, matrixed organization. Strong analytical, communication, stakeholder management, and negotiation skills. Experience developing business cases, including solution evaluation, financial justification, NPV, and ROI analysis. Experience with spend analysis, RFQs, supplier engagement, and structured problem-solving. Practical application of Lean and/or Six Sigma methodologies. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and standard business applications. Preferred Qualifications Experience in PCBA manufacturing and/or PCBA design. Background in electrical component engineering, electromechanical design, power management, or electrical systems and controls. Strong Design for Excellence (DfX) knowledge related to PCBA layouts. Experience working within or closely with procurement organizations. Six Sigma Green Belt certification. Experience working with Tier 1 and Tier 2 EMS suppliers. eCAD layout and component management experience using industry-standard tools. Knowledge of phase-gate product development processes.
