Your Impact The Vertex Business Process Excellence, HR Transformation Co-Op is a 6-month experiential training program for students currently working towards an advanced degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Business Process Management or other related fields. If you are passionate, collaborative, and growth-minded, a co-op at Vertex will help you gain meaningful experience in our Business Process Excellence, HR Transformation functional areas and serve as a launchpad for your career. What you will be doing: The Business Process Excellence team at Vertex is focused on improving how HR delivers services to employees, managers and candidates through process redesign, technology enablement and continuous improvement. This team partners closely with stakeholders across HR and the broader enterprise to move HR services from design into day-to-day operation and to measure the value they deliver to the business. he Business Process Excellence, HR Transformation Co-op will support the launch and continuous improvement of redesigned HR services. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in HR transformation, operational excellence, value realization and the use of AI tools in everyday work. The Co-op will support the continuous improvement of Vertex's redesigned HR services. Day-to-day responsibilities may include: Performance Tracking & Reporting Learn the pre-launch baseline and business case goals, including turnaround times, hours saved and cost savings. Gather and analyze process data and stakeholder feedback to track results against goals. Prepare weekly progress reports for the team and HR leaders. Continuous Improvement Maintain a prioritized backlog of process issues, improvement ideas and agreed actions, each with an owner and due date. Follow up on open actions through completion and flag items that are stuck. Lead working sessions with stakeholders to resolve assigned issues. Measure whether improvements are delivering the intended results. Process Enablement Develop job aids, process guides, FAQs and checklists. Use AI tools to draft communications and support the rollout of process updates. Stakeholder Engagement Partner with HR service owners, HR operations teams, HR technology and HR leaders. Collaborate with external consulting partners supporting the program. Share findings and progress in team meetings and leadership reviews. Potential Projects May Include: Building a weekly performance report that compares service results against baseline and business case targets. Redesigning a job aid or process guide where users are struggling, then tracking whether errors go down after rollout. Setting up a simple way to collect user and stakeholder feedback on new processes. What you will need to succeed: Currently enrolled in a master's degree in one of the following fields: Industrial Engineering (preferred) Systems Engineering or Engineering Management Operations Management Information Systems Business Process Management Legal authorization to work in the United States, now and in the future. Please note that Vertex does not provide sponsorship for internships/co-ops or entry level roles within this part of the organization. You must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before June 2027. You must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from January – June 2027. Experience & Skills: 3+ years of full-time professional work experience prior to graduate school. Consulting experience (management, operations or HR) strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience taking a process improvement from analysis through implementation. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong emotional intelligence and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels. Ability to work through ambiguity and build structure when the answer isn't clear. HR experience is a plus. Technical Proficiency: Regular use of generative AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) for research, analysis and drafting, including checking outputs for accuracy.
