Position Summary: Illumina, Inc. is seeking an exceptional Sr. Staff Medical Science Liaison in Oncology with strong experience and interest in genomics and precision medicine. Illumina is a global leader in DNA and multi-omic sequencing, manufacturing research use only (RUO) and in vitro diagnostic (IVD) products that support both research and clinical applications.. The Senior Staff Medical Science Liaison is responsible for leading and executing the Medical Affairs Strategy in the US. The MSL is responsible for facilitating objective, evidence-based, and non-promotional scientific exchange regarding Illumina's technologies, products, and associated scientific data. This role focuses on building and maintaining relationships with key opinion leaders (KOL) and other scientific stakeholders, gathering insights to inform Medical Affairs strategy, supporting research and educational initiatives, and responding to unsolicited requests for scientific information in accordance with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements. This individual will contribute scientific expertise related to genomic technologies, emerging evidence, laboratory applications, and evolving scientific, laboratory, and clinical evidence relevant to advancing precision medicine research in oncology. In addition, this individual will manage relationships with health care professionals (HCPs), health care organizations (HCOs), professional societies, and customers within the US to support scientific exchange and education in oncology, including objective, evidence-based communication regarding genomic technologies, scientific evidence, laboratory applications, and the appropriate use of Illumina’s approved IVD oncology products where applicable. This position is part of Illumina’s US Medical Affairs organization and reports to a Head of Oncology Medical Affairs for the USCAN region. It is an opportunity to contribute to the advancement of genomic research and precision oncology through scientific engagement and support of Illumina’s research and clinical sequencing solutions . Requirements: Serve as a field-based scientific resource and trusted scientific exchange partner for KOLs, HCPs, laboratory personnel, researchers, academic institutions, and other stakeholders in oncology and precision medicine. Conduct all interactions in a factual, objective, non-promotional manner and in accordance with applicable company policies and practices. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of Illumina, its product offerings, recent medical and scientific advancements, and key publications in the field of precision medicine, with a focus on oncology. Demonstrated expertise in comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP), minimal residual disease (MRD), and precision oncology testing across major solid tumors and hematologic malignancies Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with external scientific leaders and stakeholders to facilitate scientific exchange, gather insights, and understand evolving scientific, clinical, and research needs within the genomics community. Identification and engagement of KOLs will be based on scientific expertise and contributions to the field. Provide objective, balanced, and evidence-based scientific education and scientific exchange presentations regarding oncology genomics, precision medicine, laboratory applications, and relevant scientific evidence, . Develop and maintain a level of knowledge about pertinent studies, compounds, and diseases that would facilitate collaborative scientific discussions with leading oncology/pathology thought leaders Assess protocol grant submissions to the Investigator-Initiated Trial (IIT) program and assist with managing projects Provide field-based medical and scientific information for responding to unsolicited requests for information regarding Illumina products in accordance with company policies Provide scientific support for oncology and pathology education initiatives, including research-focused congress activities and other non-promotional scientific forums. Provide scientific and Medical Affairs support for evidence generation activities and development of approved or investigational clinical products, including scientific engagement with study sites and investigators as appropriate Continually educates self on market issues/trends and product knowledge as it pertains to specific business responsibilities in key therapeutic areas Collect and synthesize input from external stakeholders to understand the needs of patients and caregivers to inform the strategic planning of the Medical Affairs department Provide medical review of scientific, educational, and Medical Affairs materials, and review promotional and training materials related to approved clinical products in accordance with applicable policies and procedures. Drives publication plan and reviews abstracts, posters, presentations and scientific articles Review and keep current on key publications and national practice guidelines (eg. NCCN, ASCO) Clearly articulate the clinical workflow in oncology healthcare settings, including in molecular pathology laboratories and with medical oncologists Maintain Medical Affairs independence and compliance thorough understanding of applicable regulations, industry guidance, company policies, and ethical standards governing scientific exchange, medical affairs activities, and communications related to both IVD and RUO products. Listed responsibilities are an essential, but not exhaustive list, of the usual duties associated with the position. Changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needs. Qualifications: Advanced degree required (i.e. Pharm D, MD/DO, PhD, RN, PA) in a relevant scientific discipline. Doctorate strongly preferred in a health science or clinical discipline. Understanding of genomics, personalized medicine, in vitro diagnostics, clinical laboratory workflows and oncology background with a research and publication record preferred. Greater than or equal to 5 years of clinical, scientific/research, or industry related experience or equivalent required. Able to readily interpret scientific data, understand the potential impact of data on clinical approaches and research needs, and communicate scientific data to broad audiences. Must possess a thorough understanding of FDA, OIG, HIPAA and other ethical guidelines, laws and regulations relevant to the medical device industry.
