Join Lonza's Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) team in Visp, one of the world's leading biotechnology manufacturing hubs. In this role, you will lead technology transfers and process implementation activities for Upstream manufacturing processes, helping bring innovative therapies from development to commercial production while collaborating with customers and cross-functional experts. This role is primarily based on site. The full list of our global benefits can be found here: https://www.lonza.com/careers/benefits What you will do: Lead cross-functional teams responsible for technology transfers, process design, scale-up activities, and implementation at manufacturing scale, ensuring successful project execution from planning through completion. Serve as the MSAT Process Expert for Upstream Processing (USP), acting as the key interface between customers, process development teams, and manufacturing operations. Ensure process scalability and manufacturability for fermentation, clarification, homogenization and filtration operations. Apply structured technology transfer methodologies, risk management tools, and change control processes to support successful process implementation. Communicate directly with customers throughout campaign preparation, execution, and closure, including regular reporting on batch status and process performance. Lead investigations and resolution of process-related issues during manufacturing while ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality requirements. Drive timely completion of process documentation, including deviations, change requests, campaign reports, and technical summaries. What we are looking for: PhD or Master's degree in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline. Minimum 3 years of experience as a Process Expert in Upstream Processing (USP) or in a comparable biopharmaceutical manufacturing role. Fluent communication skills in German and English (minimum B2 level). Strong technical expertise in upstream manufacturing processes, including fermentation, clarification, homogenization and filtration operations. Proven critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions in a dynamic manufacturing environment. Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across complex matrix organizations and remain calm under pressure.
