Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone orthopaedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals. Should you accept this position, it is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, you would be an employee of DePuy Synthes and your employment would be governed by DePuy Synthes employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans. In that case, details of any planned changes would be provided to you by DePuy Synthes at an appropriate time and subject to any necessary consultation processes. Purpose : The HR Leader, US Commercial is responsible for leading the management of employee relations matters across a large, complex commercial and field sales organization. Reporting to the Head of HR, Spine, Sports, and CMF, this role serves as a trusted employee relations subject-matter expert and partners closely with HR Business Partners, business leaders, Legal, Compliance, and other stakeholders to deliver fair, consistent, timely, and business-focused solutions. The HR Leader, US Commercial will independently manage complex and sensitive cases, interpret and apply company policies and U.S. employment requirements, identify trends, and proactively mitigate employee and organizational risk. Key Responsibilities Serve as the primary employee relations subject-matter expert for designated U.S. Orthopaedics commercial and field sales organizations, providing practical guidance on policy interpretation, performance management, workplace conduct, and corrective action. Independently manage complex, sensitive, and high-risk employee relations matters from intake through resolution, including investigations, disciplinary actions, performance concerns, workplace conflict, grievances, and policy violations. Plan and conduct objective, thorough, and timely workplace investigations; assess evidence, document findings, and recommend appropriate actions in partnership with HR, Legal, and business leaders. Interpret and apply company policies and applicable U.S. federal, state, and local employment requirements to promote fair, consistent, and compliant employment practices. Advise leaders and HR partners on employee relations risk, options, and recommended actions, balancing employee experience, business needs, consistency, and legal considerations. Provide employee relations guidance and risk assessments for organizational changes, workforce actions, restructures, territory or leadership changes, and other business transformation initiatives. Identify case trends, recurring themes, and potential areas of risk; translate insights into recommendations that strengthen leader capability, organizational health, and employee experience. Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential case documentation and support consistent case-management practices, reporting, and governance. Develop and facilitate training, tools, and coaching for leaders and HR partners on performance management, investigations, respectful workplace expectations, and employee relations best practices. Build effective partnerships across a matrixed organization and contribute to broader HR priorities, process improvements, and cross-functional initiatives. Education Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Human Resources, Business Administration, Employment Relations, Law, or a related field. Advanced degree or relevant professional certification preferred. Experience and Capabilities Required 4-6 years of progressive experience in employee relations, human resources, labor and employment, or a related discipline. Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex employee relations cases and conduct sensitive workplace investigations from intake through resolution. Strong working knowledge of U.S. employment laws, employee relations principles, investigation practices, and performance-management processes. Sound judgment and demonstrated ability to evaluate risk, synthesize complex information, and provide clear, practical, and business-oriented recommendations. Strong consulting, influencing, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to build credibility and challenge constructively at multiple levels of the organization. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear case documentation and communicate sensitive decisions appropriately. Ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise a high degree of discretion, and handle confidential information with integrity. Demonstrated commitment to fair, consistent, and respectful employment practices. Preferred Experience supporting a large commercial or geographically dispersed field sales organization. Experience in a regulated industry such as MedTech, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, or life sciences.
