USA, Req #: R-09188, Belgium, Req# R-093443 ROLE PROFILE Chief Architect — Innovative Medicine The Chief Architect, Innovative Medicine Sector is the senior architecture leader responsible for defining and governing the technology architecture strategy across the Innovative Medicine sector, including R&D, Supply Chain, Commercial, Data, AI, Cloud, Integration, Security, and Enterprise platforms. This role establishes the sector-wide architectural vision, principles, reference designs, standards, and governance model that guide technology investments and ensure alignment with business strategy, digital transformation priorities, and enterprise technology direction. The Chief Architect partners closely with sector business leaders, product and platform teams, Technology Services, Information Security & Risk Management, Enterprise Architecture, and architects across other J&J sectors to promote common enterprise architecture principles, reusable platforms, and consistent technology decision-making. The role serves as the architecture steward for Innovative Medicine, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, interoperable, compliant, resilient, AI-ready, and aligned to both sector-specific needs and broader enterprise technology standards. The role will lead a distributed team of 20+ architects and is accountable for advancing modern architecture ways of working, including the adoption of GenAI to accelerate blueprint creation, architectural analysis, pattern discovery, design documentation, standards compliance, and architecture decision support. The Technology organization is a strategic partner to the sector, enabling modern digital, data and AI capabilities, secure and resilient technology foundations, and enterprise architecture practices that accelerate innovation, improve operational excellence, and create competitive advantage across the Innovative Medicine value chain. Key Responsibilities Enterprise Architecture Strategy Define and evolve the Innovative Medicine architecture strategy across R&D, Supply Chain, Commercial, Data, AI, Cloud, Security, and Enterprise Platforms. Develop future-state architecture blueprints and principles that enable business agility, interoperability, scalability, security, and regulatory compliance. Drive technology modernization, platform simplification, and technical debt reduction across the sector. Align architecture investments with business priorities, enterprise strategy, and measurable outcomes. Lead and develop a global architecture organization of 20+ architects, fostering a high-performing and collaborative culture. Architecture Across the Innovative Medicine Value Chain Provide architecture leadership across R&D, Supply Chain, and Commercial capabilities to enable an integrated end-to-end operating model. Establish common data, process, and platform patterns that improve interoperability, reuse, and user experience. Ensure architectures support global scale, lifecycle management, compliance, cybersecurity, and business continuity requirements. Reference Architectures and Standards Establish and govern reference architectures, design patterns, technology standards, and security guardrails. Promote adoption of reusable enterprise capabilities and shared platforms to reduce complexity and duplication. Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to inform enterprise architecture direction and standards. Technology Roadmaps and Platform Alignment Ensure alignment across business strategies, product roadmaps, platform roadmaps, and enterprise technology priorities. Guide technology investment decisions, including build, buy, reuse, modernization, and platform consolidation strategies. Partner with product, engineering, data, security, and business leaders to prioritize strategic technology capabilities. Enterprise Collaboration and Architecture Leadership Partner with Technology Services, Enterprise Architecture, ISRM, and sector architecture leaders to advance common enterprise architecture principles, standards, and reusable platforms. Represent Innovative Medicine architecture priorities in enterprise governance and cross-sector decision-making forums.
